What are the responsibilities and job description for the Receptionist/Info Clerk/Technical Assistant position at Jones Memorial Hospital?
Statement of Purpose:
To receive visitors and patients, ascertain their needs and direct them accordingly; to answer telephones, make appointments and perform related clerical duties. Assist the technologists with tasks and duties related to patient care, primarily in the MRI department.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs some or all of the following duties:
- As Receptionist:
- Greets visitors and patients; determines their needs; checks appointments and directs or escorts to proper person, office or department. Assists other outsiders to appropriate locations.
- Transcribes paper orders into Epic appropriately
- Makes appointments and gives routine instructions to patients when necessary, obtains all required information or patient history prior to appointment.
- Informs other departments of special arrangements/procedures when necessary.
- Inputs patient charge information for billing purposes.
- As Information Clerk:
a) Maintains necessary files.
b) Answers questions on patient’s locations, condition and progress and general questions relating to hospital services.
c) Notes test date and sends charge information to business office.
d) Requests information or test results from other departments or hospital and keeps necessary records. May audit results for trends.
e) Obtains authorizations on required exams and verifies that it is for the appropriate exam
f) Registers patients and collects co-pays when appropriate.
3. As a Technical Assistant
- Greet patients, performs basic patient care and transporting to and from the imaging department
- Appropriately screens patients and/or support staff for allergies and contraindications (i.e., metallic objects, surgical implants, foreign bodies, pacemaker/defibrillator)
- Follow technologist’s instructions regarding tasks to be performed during daily operations
- Assist with stocking of supplies within the department
- Assists in other areas of the medical imaging department as necessary
- Maintains and assists with necessary paperwork as requested by the technologist
- Performs a variety of clerical duties such as typing, cross-indexing, files and retrieves records; posts data, compiles and types reports, sorts and distributes mail, delivers messages, etc.
- Receives and transmits messages. Arranges paging of Hospital Staff if necessary. Answers questions and gives information directly or by telephone.
- May develop and process files and assist technologists with patients when necessary.
- Operates and makes minor adjustments and repairs to business machines.
- Participates with hospital wide and departmental TQM programs. Responsible for identifying any opportunities for improvement and communicating to departmental teams.
- Demonstrates proficient use of Epic, PACS System, Pacs Cube, PowerShare and MyPath.
EDUCATION: High School or equivalency. Medical Terminology and Current BLS/CPR certification is preferred. Computer experience required.
EXPERIENCE: Three months related experience, including computer skills, public contact and ability to multitask, healthcare field experience preferred. Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and effective communication, as well as excellent customer service skills.
CONTACTS: Frequent contact with employees, patients, visitors, and public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking all day. Lifting and moving medium to heavy weight as needed.
