Statement of Purpose:
The Graduate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to designated patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or licensed provider. This role is intended for recent graduates of an accredited LPN program who intend to become licensed within 90 days of hire. Until licensure is obtained, the Graduate LPN will function in a non-licensed (Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician) supportive capacity under direct supervision.
Employment Conditions:
- Must be a recent graduate of an accredited LPN program.
- New York State LPN licensure is required within 90 days of hire.
- Failure to pass the NCLEX within 90 days may result in termination of employment.
- The organization reserves the right to grant limited extensions based on individual and operational circumstances.
- Upon licensure, the Graduate LPN will advance to the Licensed Practical Nurse role.
Essential Functions (Post-Licensure):
- Deliver direct patient care under supervision, including medication administration and assistance with exams or procedures.
- Monitor, document, and report patient conditions, treatment responses, and relevant observations.
- Support clinical operations by collecting lab specimens, coordinating referrals, managing authorizations, and updating medical records.
- Contribute to patient education, safety efforts, and emergency response as needed.
- Participate in inventory upkeep, quality initiatives, team meetings, and onboarding of new team members.
- Provide care across all age groups, remain flexible to assist with varying shifts or departments based on care needs.
Education and Certification Requirements:
- Required at Hire:
- Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or within 30 days of hire)
- Required Within 90 Days:
- New York State LPN licensure and registration
- Preferred:
- EPIC or EMR experience, especially within URMC-affiliated settings
