Job Summary
The Hospice Chaplain provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff during the end-of-life journey. This role is integral to the interdisciplinary hospice team, offering compassionate care that respects diverse beliefs and values. The chaplain helps individuals find meaning, peace, and comfort through counseling, rituals, and presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized spiritual care to patients and families.
- Conduct or coordinate religious services, rituals, and ceremonies.
- Facilitate life review and meaning-making conversations.
- Offer grief counseling and emotional support to patients and loved ones.
- Assist patients in exploring feelings about death and end-of-life decisions.
- Support families through bereavement and anticipatory grief.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to integrate spiritual care into overall care plans.
- Educate staff and volunteers on spiritual care practices and cultural sensitivity.
- Respond to emergency spiritual care needs as they arise.
- Develop and maintain spiritual care plans.
- Document patient interactions and progress in EMR systems.
- Provide referrals to community spiritual resources when needed.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Counseling, or related field.
- Certification or ordination from a recognized religious body.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in hospice, healthcare, or pastoral care.
- Strong understanding of grief, loss, and end-of-life issues.
- Ability to work with individuals of diverse faiths and backgrounds.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and listening skills.
Work Environment
Field-based role with visits to patient homes, facilities, and hospice offices. Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed. Collaborative work with clinical and administrative staff.
Salary : $60,000 - $65,000
