What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Sales Engineer / Technical Field Sales (OEM Accounts) position at Johnson Company?
Your Voice Will Matter Here
Step into an established territory with an active customer base and a real opportunity to build from a strong foundation. We are looking for a highly motivated field sales professional who will build relationships, bring new ideas, and play an active role in how the territory continues to grow and evolve.
This role offers real ownership of the territory, with direct access to sales leadership, manufacturer partners, and OEM customers.
We are looking for someone who can aggressively pursue new business opportunities, uncover new design activity, and expand the territory beyond its current footprint. This role is firmly focused on developing new opportunities, increasing penetration within key accounts, and converting design activity into long‑term revenue. You will be expected to bring ideas forward, take initiative, and actively shape how the territory grows.
About the Role
Johnson Company is hiring a Field Sales Engineer / Technical Sales Representative to support and grow our St. Louis–based territory, serving medical, industrial, commercial vehicle, and mil‑aero OEM customers.
This position is a replacement for a long‑tenured sales engineer who is retiring, creating a unique opportunity to step into a well‑established, well‑managed territory with active customer relationships, ongoing opportunities, and strong manufacturer support. You will be positioned to build on a solid foundation while shaping the future of the territory.
This role is well suited for:
- An early‑to‑mid career sales engineer ready to take ownership of a defined territory
- A seasoned field sales professional who values long‑term relationships and technical selling
- Someone who enjoys balancing account management with new opportunity development

This Role Is a Strong Fit If You:
- Have experience in outside sales, field sales engineering, or technical account management
- Enjoy building trust‑based relationships with engineers, buyers, and decision makers
- Are comfortable selling technical or engineered products
- Want ownership of a defined territory with room to grow
- Value long‑term customer relationships more than short‑term transactions
This Role Is Likely Not a Fit If You:
- Prefer an office environment, want daily direction & guidance, and prefer a non‑travel role
- Are focused strictly on transactional or price‑driven sales
- Dislike accountability for territory planning, CRM discipline, and follow‑through
