PrePress Desktop Operator Lead

Job Purpose:
- The Desktop Operator Lead at JOHNS BYRNE CO is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the desktop publishing team. This role involves ensuring the timely and accurate production of printed materials, managing workflow, and maintaining quality standards. The Desktop Operator Lead will also coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless project execution and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and lead a team of desktop operators, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality output.
- Oversee the production of printed materials, ensuring adherence to project specifications, timelines, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, and other departments to coordinate project requirements and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Monitor and manage workflow to ensure optimal productivity and resource allocation.
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy in all printed materials.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices to ensure the team remains competitive and innovative.
- Prepare and present regular reports on team performance, project status, and any operational challenges to senior management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.

Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or higher in graphic design, computer science, or a related field is preferred.

Required Experience:
- 10 years of experience in desktop publishing or a related field.
- Proven experience in leading a team or managing projects in a desktop publishing environment.
- Experience working with high-volume print production and prepress processes.
- Familiarity with the printing industry and its standards.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in desktop publishing software such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and QuarkXPress.
- Strong technical skills in both Mac and PC environments.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, including the capacity to train and mentor junior staff.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a strong eye for design and layout.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues efficiently.
