Teacher - 1st Grade

SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School in Corpus Christi, Texas, is hiring a qualified 1st grade Teacher. The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students in the Catholic school for whom the teacher is responsible and within the framework of the school’s philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The Teacher provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth toward a successful future. 

MINISTERIAL CHARACTER:

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him.  In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community.  In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people.  He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities. Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church. This is a full-time position eligible for medical insurance and other benefits offered by the Diocese of Corpus Christi.

Mental/Physical Demands:

• Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more
• Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, turning, reaching, climbing, and balancing
• Ability to maintain composure under duress

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree, with 12 hours in education or a valid state certificate as specified by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops’ Education Department and the Diocese of Corpus Christi
• Teachers of Religion must fulfill the 150-hour minimum requirements for religious education
• Non-Catholic teachers are required to have a knowledge of the Catholic faith and support the goals of Catholic tradition in education
• Teaching experience at the elementary level is preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures
• Valid Texas driver’s license
• Must be 21 years old or older
