A privately held, boutique construction and real estate development firm in Baltimore is seeking a hands‑on, detail‑driven
Controller
to lead all accounting operations, cash flow management, and project‑level financial reporting. The company is entrepreneurial, fast‑moving, and deeply committed to delivering high‑quality projects across the region. The Controller will oversee day‑to‑day accounting, monthly close, financial reporting, and all project‑level financial controls, including
cash flow forecasting
and
Work‑in‑Progress (WIP) reporting
. This individual will partner closely with ownership, project managers, and external partners to ensure accurate financials, strong cash management, and timely insights that support decision‑making.
- Lead all accounting operations, including AP/AR, general ledger, job costing, and month‑end close
- Prepare and maintain
12‑month cash flow projections
, liquidity analysis, and weekly cash reporting - Own
WIP schedules
, revenue recognition, backlog reporting, and project profitability analysis - Oversee job cost accounting and ensure accurate tracking of labor, materials, subcontractors, and change orders
- Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
- Produce timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for ownership
- Manage banking relationships, loan draws, compliance reporting, and covenant tracking
- Implement and refine internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes
- Partner with project managers to review job performance, cost trends, and margin expectations
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Active CPA required
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in
construction, real estate development, or related project‑based industries - Strong command of
cash flow forecasting
, job costing, and
WIP reporting - Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, QuickBooks Contractor, etc.)
