Job Summary:
Collins Aerospace is a leader in aerospace and defense technology, seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to lead the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) System. This role involves championing modern systems engineering practices, managing the PLM System's architecture and development, and providing technical leadership to stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
• Champion modern systems engineering practices and principles for the development and management of the Collins PLM System through:
• Adherence and enforcement of the EES Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP).
• Incorporation of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods into the lifecycle management of the PLM System.
• Incorporation of Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) Enterprise Architecture (EA) industry standards into the lifecycle management of the Collins PLM System.
• Accountability for Architecture Governance of the Collins PLM System.
• Own the creation of model-based systems artifacts for the Collins PLM System, such as:
• SysML and UAFML architecture and design artifacts.
• Stakeholder Requirements.
• Model-based Functional & Non-Functional System Level Requirements.
• System Engineering artifact traceability relationships.
• Verification & validation cases & procedures.
• System risks & opportunities.
• Formal and informal review artifacts.
• Strategize the development priorities of the Collins PLM System, via:
• Adhering to the Agile work management system for the Collins PLM System.
• Ownership of the Collins PLM System systems engineering artifact backlog.
• Intake multiple stakeholder viewpoints to deliver an optimal Collins PLM System aligned to all stakeholder needs.
• Prioritization of the Collins PLM System backlogs, to enable the development teams to develop the right solution at the right time, the right way.
• Participate in quarterly Program Increment Planning Events and the continually recurring Agile ceremonies.
• Bring a continuous improvement, growth mindset approach to drive iterative improvements to our deliverables and to our execution approaches.
• Lead Engineering Enablement & Solutions from a technical perspective by:
• Championing industry standards & best practices of systems engineering across the EES directorate
• Channeling soft skills to cultivate a technical, systems-mindset culture shift across the EES organization
• Communicating and collaborating with key executive stakeholders on strategic, architectural aspects of the Collins PLM System
• Mentoring EES employees regarding the Systems Engineering Discipline.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position (U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder).
• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience.
• Practical Knowledge in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices and principles with willingness and ability to gain full proficiency in MBSE.
• Working Experience with SysML and systems modeling tools.
• Practical Knowledge in model-based architecture frameworks.
• Strong understanding of digital engineering implementations in a gated development process.
Preferred:
• Experience delivering hardware-centric products/systems within highly regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, automotive, defense).
• Experience designing & delivering capabilities (integrated processes, technology & training) to technical consumers.
• Proven success leveraging systems engineering principles for complex system of systems scale, multi-domain problem spaces across the entire cradle-to-grave lifecycle.
• Experience with systems engineering tools (e.g., DOORS, Cameo, TeamWork Cloud, Matlab, Polarion, JAMA), and standards (e.g., INCOSE, ISO 15288).
• Awareness of architecture frameworks such as the Object Management Group (OMG) Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
• Agile/SAFe implementation in an engineering context.
