Job Summary:

DNV is an independent expert in assurance and risk management, focused on empowering customers with reliable insights for critical decision-making. The Power System Study Engineer role involves performing electrical system impact studies, transmission planning, and providing technical support to stakeholders in the power generation and transmission sectors, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy solutions.


Responsibilities:

• Perform electrical System Impact Studies such as Steady State, Dynamic and Transient Stability analyses for generation, large load interconnections in PSS/E

• Perform Short Circuit studies in ASPEN

• Perform Voltage ride through (VRT) tests, dynamic model quality tests, model benchmarking

• Perform transmission planning & compliance assessments for bulk electric power system in PSS/E

• Produce and/or review technical reports and presentations for external Customers

• Timely completion of projects assigned while meeting project quality and project budget

• Develop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulations

• Stay up to date with relevant NERC, ISO/RTO planning procedures, policy changes and developments

• Contribute to the team’s research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the team’s performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvements

• Cultivate customer relationships, technical advisory support for generations, and large load interconnections connecting to transmission system


Qualifications:


Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis in electric power systems

• Minimum 2 years of direct working experience to include transmission planning, expansion, generation and/or large load interconnection related analyses, NERC reliability standards such as TPL/MOD/CIP

• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with power-system tool such as PSS/E

• In-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energy

• Strong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem solving and analytical skills

• Ability to work in a dynamic team environment

• Excellent oral and written communications skills in English

• We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening


Preferred:

• Knowledge of ERCOT Electricity Market planning & interconnection practices

• Demonstrable hands-on experience with one or more power system analysis software packages including ASPEN, TARA

• Active PE License

• Graduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power Systems

• Working knowledge of automation scripts such as Python

• Knowledge of other Electricity Markets (such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE) planning & interconnection practices
