Responsibilities:
- Advise employee benefit plans regarding compliance with ERISA and other applicable laws and regulations
- Analyze complex employee benefits issues and provide practical legal guidance
- Assist clients with plan compliance and governance matters
- Draft and review plan documents, amendments, policies and related materials
- Research and analyze federal laws, regulations and agency guidance
- Assist clients in navigating interactions with governmental agencies
- Advise trustees, plan fiduciaries and other client representatives
- Manage client matters with increasing levels of independence
- Communicate directly with clients and participate in client/board meetings
- Collaborate with attorneys across multiple client teams
- Assist with a broad range of retirement, healthcare and other employee benefit issues
- Travel periodically for board and client meetings as needed
- Demonstrated experience handling employee benefit plan issues under ERISA
- Private-practice experience preferred
- Strong legal research, writing and analytical abilities
- Strong academic background
- Excellent communication and client-management skills
- Ability to manage matters independently while working collaboratively
- D.C. Bar membership or eligibility for admission by waiver
- $160,000–$250,000 base salary, depending on experience and relevant background
