What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automatic Gate Technician position at JJS Group?
About Us & Why You’ll Love Working Here We provide premier personalized service, sales, installation, and maintenance for automatic gates and access control systems throughout the greater Columbus region. We specialize in keeping high-traffic commercial, industrial, and residential properties secure and functional.
Because we are backed by an industry-leading national facility services parent company, we have the resources to offer our technicians top-tier benefits, brand-new gear, and long-term stability—without the corporate micromanagement. We are looking for a true professional who takes pride in their craft, enjoys working outdoors, and wants a permanent home where their expertise is rewarded.
The Role: Field Service & Automation Expert We are not looking for an entry-level trainee or someone whose only experience is replacing barrier arms. We need a heavy-hitting technician who can hit the ground running. You will be the go-to expert in the field, dispatched to diagnose, repair, and install complex automated gate systems. If you have a deep understanding of low-voltage electronics and the mechanical intuition to fix heavy moving parts, this is the role for you.
What You Will Do:
- Gate Service & Repair: Autonomously troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial slide gates, swing gates, vertical pivot gates, and their motorized operators (e.g., LiftMaster, Doorking, HySecurity).
- Low-Voltage Troubleshooting: Expertly diagnose electrical issues within control boards, photo eyes, safety loops, limit switches, and low-voltage wiring.
- Mechanical Repair: Tackle the physical, heavy mechanical side of the job—replacing worn chains, adjusting tracks, replacing heavy-duty hinges, and fixing structural alignment issues.
- New Installations: Lead or assist in the complete physical installation and electrical commissioning of new gate systems.
- Access Control (Bonus): Wire and troubleshoot telephone entry systems, keypads, and card readers (Access control experience is a strong plus, though the primary focus of this role is the gate operators themselves).
- Client Interaction: Act as the face of the company on-site, explaining repairs and system operations clearly to property managers and business owners.
What We Are Looking For (Strict Requirements):
- The Experience: Proven, hands-on field experience specifically servicing and installing heavy automated gate operators. (Note: Experience strictly limited to parking barrier gates will not be sufficient for this role).
- The Technical Chops: You must possess a strong dual-skillset: high proficiency in low-voltage electrical troubleshooting combined with heavy mechanical repair skills.
- The Independence: You are a self-starter who can take a service ticket, drive to the site, find the root cause of the failure, and fix it without having your hand held by a supervisor.
- The Logistics: A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Must be comfortable lifting heavy materials, using power tools, and working outdoors in varying Ohio weather conditions. Welding experience is a fantastic bonus.
Pay, Perks & Premium Benefits:
- The Gear: Fully stocked company service truck, gas card, and specialized tools provided.
- Great Earning Potential: Highly competitive hourly pay based on your actual experience, plus strong overtime opportunities.
- Comprehensive Benefits: Health, Dental, and Vision insurance.
- Retirement: 401(k) program with company match.
- Work/Life Balance: Paid time off (PTO) and paid company holidays.
- The Culture: A supportive, down-to-earth team that has your back and respects the work you do in the field.
We are an Equal Opportunity Employer. We hire based on qualifications, merit, and business needs.
Salary : $25 - $40
