Sanitation Team Member
Food Manufacturing — Production Department
Department: Production / Sanitation
Reports To: Production Manager
Work Hours: 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Pay Rate: $21.00 per hour
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Position Summary
The Sanitation Team Member is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety throughout Jimmy's production facility. This role is critical to ensuring compliance with all applicable food safety regulations, including FDA, SQF and FSMA requirements, as well as company-specific Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). The Sanitation Team Member works closely with the Production Manager and production staff to execute daily sanitation schedules and support a safe, audit-ready environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Daily Sanitation Operations
- Perform daily pre-operational and post-operational sanitation inspections of all food contact surfaces, equipment, and production areas
- Disassemble, clean, sanitize, and reassemble food processing equipment including mixers, slicers, conveyors, and filling machines in accordance with written sanitation SOPs
- Apply approved cleaning chemicals at correct concentrations using proper PPE and dilution procedures
- Scrub, wash, and sanitize floors, drains, walls, ceilings, and all non-food contact surfaces in production and storage areas
- Properly handle and dispose of waste, food debris, and recyclable materials in compliance with facility waste management procedures
Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Follow all FDA, SQF, and FSMA food safety guidelines and maintain strict adherence to HACCP plans
- Complete Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) tasks on assigned schedule, including deep-clean and periodic cleaning tasks
- Accurately complete sanitation logs, chemical concentration records, and quality testing
- Immediately report any food safety concerns, foreign material risks, or unsanitary conditions to the Production Manager
- Participate in internal and third-party food safety audits, including SQF, FDA, or other certification audits as applicable
- Maintain compliance with allergen sanitation protocols, including proper changeover procedures between allergen-containing products
Chemical & Equipment Management
- Use and maintain cleaning equipment including pressure washers, foam applicators, scrubbers, and auto-scrubbers safely and correctly
- Mix and handle chemical cleaning agents in accordance with SDS (Safety Data Sheet) guidelines and company chemical control program
- Monitor and record chemical inventories; notify supervisor of low stock levels
- Inspect cleaning tools and equipment for damage or wear; report maintenance needs promptly
- Other Duties as Assigned
Teamwork & Communication
- Communicate effectively with production team members and the Production Manager regarding sanitation completion status and any issues encountered
- Support changeover sanitation activities between production runs and shift transitions
- Assist with training of new sanitation team members on procedures, chemical handling, and food safety expectations
- Participate in team meetings, safety briefings, and continuous improvement initiatives
Required
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English; bilingual candidates encouraged to apply
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding work for extended periods
- Willingness to work in wet, cold, and warm environments throughout the facility
- Ability to work the scheduled shift: 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM, including some weekends and holidays as required
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and food safety
Preferred
- Prior experience in food manufacturing, food service, or industrial sanitation (6 months preferred)
- Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, or food safety certifications (e.g., ServSafe, PCQI, or SQF)
- Familiarity with CIP (Clean-in-Place) and COP (Clean-out-of-Place) systems
- Experience using ATP testing devices and interpreting sanitation verification results
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching for extended periods (8–10.5 hours per shift)
- Frequent exposure to water, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures (refrigerated, ambient, and heated production areas)
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, goggles, rubber boots, aprons, and hearing protection as required
- Exposure to loud equipment, slippery surfaces, and moving machinery — must follow all safety protocols
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights for overhead cleaning tasks
