Summary
The Quality Control NDT Inspector is responsible for inspecting products to verify compliance with customer specifications, applicable welding codes, and material requirements. This role initiates, documents, and tracks non-conformance reports to ensure product quality meets customer expectations. The inspector maintains complete, accurate records of all inspection activities and works independently from manufacturing to uphold company quality standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties represent the general nature and level of work performed and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
- Monitor all phases of production, from receipt of raw materials through shipment of finished products.
- Set up, calibrate, and operate nondestructive testing (NDT) equipment.
- Perform inspections using Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) to verify quality and detect defects or discontinuities.
- Conduct dimensional inspections to verify component fit and product configuration.
- Review fabrication plans, contract documents, and inspection specifications.
- Review shop drawings to identify potential fabrication or inspection issues.
- Observe shop assemblies and ensure dimensions are properly obtained and documented.
- Monitor production welding and perform final inspections of weldments to ensure compliance with applicable codes and specifications.
- Evaluate welder workmanship and notify production supervision when additional training or corrective action is required.
- Initiate non-conformance reports (NCRs), tag affected materials, and monitor repair progress through completion.
- Under the direction of the Quality Manager, exercise independent authority from manufacturing to ensure quality policies and procedures are followed.
Minimum Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic math skills
- Ability to communicate verbally and effectively read and write in English
- Documented training and/or certification per ASNT SNT-TC-1A for UT and MT Level II
- Ability to pass an annual vision examination, with or without corrective lenses, demonstrating near vision acuity of Jaeger 2 at 12 inches or greater in at least one eye
- Annual testing for color contrast differentiation, demonstrating the ability to distinguish colors or shades of gray
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of measuring devices and inspection tools
- Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and specifications
- Knowledge of non-destructive examination (NDE) methods and processes
- Understanding of welding practices and techniques
- Knowledge of manufacturing and inspection processes related to company products
- Ability to inspect parts and assemblies for compliance with production drawings and company quality standards
- Ability to read, interpret, and clearly communicate drawing and specification requirements
- Ability to work collaboratively and foster a cooperative work environment
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and properly use inspection tools and testing equipment
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
