JASA is hosting an In-Person Interview Event for our Full-Time Program Coordinator position at our Starrett City Older Adult Center in Brooklyn, NY, and we’d love to meet you!

As a Program Coordinator, you’ll play an essential role in supporting JASA’s mission by helping create a welcoming, engaging, and supportive environment for older adults. You’ll assist with the coordination of daily programs, member services, and center operations while helping ensure older adults have access to meaningful activities, resources, and opportunities for social connection.

The Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting program development and activities, assisting members, coordinating center operations, maintaining program records, preparing communications and materials, supporting special events, and providing administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of Starrett City Older Adult Center.

About the Role

The Program Coordinator supports the daily operations, programming, and member services at Starrett City Older Adult Center. This role assists with planning and coordinating activities, providing member support, maintaining program records, and ensuring the center operates effectively while creating a welcoming and supportive environment for older adults.


What You'll Be Doing

Program Coordination & Activities

  • Prepare monthly activity calendars, informational materials, and program flyers.
  • Assist the Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director with developing group programs and securing consultants for programming.
  • Lead and co-lead groups at the Center and/or virtually.
  • Provide coverage for group outings and special activities.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating special events and center activities.
  • Attend community, agency, and staff meetings as designated.

Member Support & Administrative Duties

  • Answer in-person and telephone inquiries and act as a resource for members, visitors, and community partners.
  • Provide information and referrals under the supervision of the Program Director and/or Assistant Director.
  • Complete program intakes with new members and maintain accurate, up-to-date demographic information in STARS.
  • Assemble and record statistical data and program information.
  • Prepare letters, reports, flyers, calendars, and other printed materials as needed.
  • Maintain organized program documentation and records.

Site Operations & Program Support

  • Provide coverage of the Older Adult Center during the absence of the Program Director and Assistant Director.
  • Place orders with food vendors and other suppliers.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of food and program supplies.
  • Support daily center operations and assist with staff coverage as needed.
  • Fill in for absent staff, including kitchen staff coverage when necessary.
  • Perform additional related duties and assignments as requested.

Emergency & Special Operations Support

  • Participate in Cooling Center Hours, Make-Up Days, and other emergency operations as required by City funders.
  • Be available to work extended hours or weekends when necessary to support older adult center members and special programming needs.

What You'll Need

Education

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Associate’s Degree preferred.

Experience

  • One or more years of program coordinator experience highly preferred.
  • Prior group leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults, community programs, or social service organizations is a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong writing, organization, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with older adults, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn program-specific software.
  • Knowledge of Spanish, Russian, or Chinese dialects is a plus.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, set up tables and chairs, and climb stairs as needed.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as assigned by leadership.
