Position Summary
The Corporate Controller will be a strategic and hands-on leader, serving as the CFO’s right hand in building a best-in-class accounting function capable of supporting a fast-growing, acquisitive business. This role is responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of all financial reporting while driving standardization and operational rigor across newly acquired entities. The ideal candidate is an experienced accounting leader with strong audit, technical accounting, and integration experience—and who thrives in a dynamic environment that requires both high-level leadership and day-to-day execution. This position is primarily on-site in Northern New Jersey, with limited remote flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership & Close Process
- Oversee and develop an accounting team of 2–3 professionals.
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Deliver complete and audit-ready financial statements, with clear explanations of variances and performance drivers.
- Lead the annual external audit to ensure full GAAP compliance and timely audit completion.
Acquisition Integration
- Lead financial integration for all newly acquired businesses, including:
- Opening balance sheet creation
- Transition to accrual/GAAP-compliant accounting
- Standardization of Chart of Accounts
- Alignment of reporting, controls, and accounting policies
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure smooth onboarding and process adoption.
Treasury & Cash Management
- Own treasury operations, including cash management, banking relationships, collections, and disbursements.
- Maintain and present a rolling weekly 13-week cash flow forecast to support debt service, working capital, and investment needs.
Process Improvement & Operational Rigor
- Identify, implement, and scale process improvements across the organization.
- Strengthen internal controls appropriate for a rapidly growing, multi-location business.
- Partner with the CFO to build talent, improve team performance, and mature the accounting function.
- Lead the transition from multiple Quickbooks instances to a singly consolidated ledger (Sage Intacct)
Qualifications
- 10–12 years of progressive accounting operations experience, ideally within multi-location, home services, or field service–based businesses.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate, timely, audit-ready financial reporting.
- Strong foundation in accounting operations, internal controls, technical accounting, and audit support.
- CPA required; prior audit experience with small to mid-sized companies is required.
- Hands-on, proactive leader who is comfortable in a high-growth environment and willing to roll up their sleeves.
- Strong problem-solving ability with a continuous-improvement mindset.
