About the Job:
In this role, you’ll manage and execute day-to-day public relations efforts as well as manage client expectations. Senior-level staff also act as a cheerleader for the agency -- suggesting new initiatives for team building, keeping a positive work environment, and mentoring junior-level staff -- and have developed strong relationships with the media.
With a roster of dynamic venture-backed brands, you will help lead strategy, craft messaging, and leverage media relationships to create compelling narratives that support your client’s vision and mission.
The Associate Director of Beauty should have proficiency in beauty & wellness media and a strong understanding of the space. The ideal candidate also has strong relationships with reporters across national and regional (primarily New York and Los Angeles) business and consumer press.
Position Reports to: Senior Vice President of Beauty
Core Responsibilities:
Media Expertise
- Develop and execute PR strategies and dynamic narratives that align with overarching client objectives and business goals with guidance from the division head
- Proactively design innovative media activations and non-traditional pitching strategies that amplify brand visibility beyond traditional efforts
- Drive the strategic planning and execution of media outreach, delivering polished, high-impact plans requiring minimal executive oversight
- Secure high-stakes feature stories and brand narratives across national and regional online, print, broadcast, and podcast platforms.
- Maintain high-level engagement with key editors and media stakeholders in the business and beauty sectors to foster long-term partnerships.
- Craft authoritative press releases and compelling written materials that elevate a brand’s presence in the market
Client Management
- Maintain regular, high-level communication with clients across all channels, acting as a trusted advisor to build strong rapport
- Proactively manage client expectations, ensuring alignment between agency deliverables and client business needs
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of all client-facing materials, strategic documentation, and monthly performance reporting
- Oversee monthly reporting processes, transforming data into actionable insights that demonstrate agency value
Team Management & Development
- Mentor and develop junior staff on a regular basis, providing consistent guidance and actionable feedback
- Partner with division leadership to support team development, fostering a culture of high performance and professional advancement
- Maintain a proactive bias for action, ensuring the team is consistently identifying unique opportunities to elevate client profiles
- Leverage approved AI tools to streamline research and administrative workflows, improving the speed and consistency of daily tasks while strictly adhering to agency data-privacy protocols and ensuring every AI-generated draft undergoes thorough human fact-checking

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5-6 years of beauty and wellness PR experience with significant agency experience
- A strong editorial network of beauty and business editors and writers
- A clear vision of the evolving beauty and wellness industry and competitive landscape
- Naturally proactive, with outstanding attention to detail and meticulous organizational skills
- A people person, skilled at building and nurturing relationships, with proven experience in supportive team management
- Skilled writer and communicator
- Ability to both balance many priorities and act resourcefully, all while maintaining a positive attitude
