EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE CURRENT EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CENTRAL GARAGE.The purpose of this positions is to perform highly skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive and construction equipment. The employee in this class acts as "troubleshooter" in determining problems on a wide variety of equipment such as cars, trucks, stationary engines, small pumps, and small portable equipment powered by internal combustion engines fueled with gasoline, diesel, and natural gas. Performs front/end repairs including wheel alignments and some tire balancing. This position repairs transmissions, clutches (single and double disc), electrical systems, changes batteries, starters, alternators and wiring. Test drives vehicles in back lot in order to perform job duties. May supervise subordinate mechanics and/or assistants. Performs related work as required. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.Significant, full-time, paid, verifiable journeyman-level work experience in the maintenance and repair of motorized equipment.
