In the role of a Safety and Security Officer, the employee is tasked with operations as it relates to the Parish-wide employee safety and accident investigation program. This professional-level position works closely with management and operational personnel to evaluate safety performance, recommend corrective actions, and implement them. This position is responsible for providing safety expertise to Jefferson Parish management and employees, conducting vehicle and injury accident investigations, job site/work zone PPE inspections, and building safety assessments. They also prepare vehicle accident investigations, internal investigation findings, and safety reports, including recommendations for corrective actions for the Safety Manager. This position will collaborate with various departments, analyzing accident data received from departments, risk management, and insurance carriers and preparing statistical reports showing frequency, severity, lost work hours, and direct and indirect costs for each operating department of the Parish government. The Safety & Security office is also tasked with administering and managing the Parish Identification Card and Security Access Control System. This is a critical role and is responsible for issuance of identification cards to all Parish employees and contractors and acts as a system administrator, granting access to buildings and gates throughout the Parish as individuals are networked into the Parish security system. Performs related work as required. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
I. Three (3) years of experience coordinating, managing, and controlling a computerized identification access system with responsibility for controlling access and security to multiple sites and locations.
II. Verifiable graduation from a law enforcement academy; PLUS, three (3) years of experience in a law enforcement role responsible for performing on site threat risk/vulnerability assessments and physical security evaluations.
III. Three (3) years of experience in the safety administration field involving the responsibility for the inspection of work sites for safe and healthy work conditions and the training/instruction of employees on workplace safety.
Substitutions: Valid professional certification in security management (e.g., Certified Protection Professional or Physical Security Professional) may substitute one (1) year of the required experience in option I or II.
Valid professional certification in safety management (e.g., Certified Safety Professional) or completion of the 30-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration training program may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience in option III.
Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate.(ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL)
