ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT
Shelton Elementary School is an amazing school located in the quaint neighborhood of Heritage Dells in Golden with one of the most breathtaking views of any school here in Jefferson County.
On the average, we enroll about 460 students, kindergarten through fifth grade. We are proud to say we are a very diverse school both socioeconomically and ethnically. Our numbers vary from year to year but we usually have around 17 different languages spoken, 22 countries represented and about 85 students who have English as their second language. Shelton hosts a center-based program supporting students with Autism and a morning and afternoon preschool. In addition, we have about 50-60 students on Advanced Learning Plans. Our staff works hard to differentiate for all students and we do a great job including STEM, STEAM, Project-based learning, and hands-on learning. Cultivating the love of learning is what we do best at Shelton, especially in our community garden.
Regularly, teachers meet in PLC's (Professional Learning Communities) weekly for 70 minutes. Teachers share their expertise and work collaboratively to improve their teaching skills to ultimately improve student performance. Being a restorative school, we focus on building community with staff, students and families. It is important that we educate the whole child.

RESPONSIBILITIES
SUMMARY: Responsible for instructing students in an elementary grades K-6. Creates lesson plans, instructs students on core subjects such as science, literature, and math, and creates a well-rounded, comprehensive instructional preparedness based on the District's Core Curriculum. Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities.
Create positive educational climate for students to learn in.
Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
Participate in ongoing training sessions.
Create lesson plans and modify accordingly throughout the year.
Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed.
Read and stay abreast of current topics in education.
Utilize various curriculum resources and technologies to enhance student learning.
Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
Utilize District curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Prepare and distribute parent communications.
Observe and evaluate student's performance.
Manage student behavior in the classroom creating appropriate behavior strategies.
