As an Energy Sales Manager supporting the Public Sector & Institutional Solutions team, you will play a central role in advancing infrastructure modernization across the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Your work will focus on helping MUSH‑sector organizations strengthen energy resilience, reduce operating costs, and meet long‑term sustainability commitments through innovative, performance‑driven solutions.
In this role, you will champion distributed energy resources, facility upgrades, and outcome‑based service models that enable customers to address aging infrastructure, carbon‑reduction mandates, and budget constraints. You will operate as a strategic advisor, guiding leaders through complex decision environments and aligning technical, financial, and operational priorities into cohesive, actionable programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Build trusted, long‑term relationships with senior officials and institutional leaders across the MUSH market, advising them on energy, infrastructure, and sustainability strategies that support their mission.
- Initiate high‑value conversations with executive stakeholders to explore modernization needs, resilience challenges, and financial pathways for capital‑constrained environments.
- Identify and develop new opportunities within municipalities, higher‑education institutions, K‑12 districts, and healthcare systems throughout the DC region.
- Gain a deep understanding of each customer’s operational landscape, regulatory pressures, and long‑term planning objectives to shape tailored solution roadmaps.
- Lead internal and external teams in crafting comprehensive proposals that integrate engineering concepts, financial modeling, lifecycle savings, and emissions‑reduction outcomes.
- Maintain disciplined sales practices, including accurate forecasting, CRM utilization, pipeline management, and structured territory planning.
- Stay current on distributed energy technologies (such as solar PV, microgrids, battery storage, and CHP) as well as evolving policy and funding mechanisms relevant to the DC/Maryland/Virginia public sector.
- Apply strong financial acumen to structure EaaS, ESPC, PPA, and other performance‑based agreements that align with public‑sector procurement requirements.
- Use consultative selling methods to uncover customer challenges related to energy reliability, deferred maintenance, carbon reduction, and modernization goals.
- Travel within the region as needed (up to ~30%).
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of total sales experience
- Minimum 5 years of complex, consultative sales or business development experience, ideally within public‑sector, institutional, or infrastructure‑focused markets
- 3 years of experience with energy‑services, performance contracting, or ESCO‑type engagements
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven ability to break into new public‑sector accounts, engage senior leadership, and build a pipeline that converts into awarded projects.
- Bachelor’s degree or technical degree preferred.
- Experience developing distributed energy resource projects (solar PV, microgrids, CHP, storage, etc.).
- Background leading cross‑functional technical teams to shape customer‑specific modernization strategies.
- Strong understanding of alternative financing and delivery models, including EaaS, PPA, and ESPC.
