My client is seeking a Senior Project Manager (PM) with experience in Microgrids and Battery Storage. This PM will be the subject‑matter expert on microgrid and battery‑storage components of energy projects, with the objective of successful completion on time and within budget while maintaining quality, safety, and cash‑management standards and producing strong customer references.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the subject‑matter expert on microgrids and battery‑storage components of energy projects, ensuring timely and on‑budget delivery with high quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
- Manage projects that include energy‑efficiency measures and renewable‑generation installations to help Commercial & Industrial customers become more sustainable, reduce costs, and improve services to end users.
- Lead project teams to investigate, develop, and implement energy‑related customer improvements with a focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS) and renewable‑based microgrids.
- Lead assessments of potential microgrid applications arising during the sales process.
- Collaborate with customers, internal teams, and OEMs to optimize microgrid design through workshops and modeling.
- Work with stakeholders to standardize and streamline processes for design, implementation, commissioning, and monitoring of microgrids.
- Coordinate requirements and specifications internally and externally with OEMs throughout sales and implementation.
- Support microgrid commissioning by writing specifications and test plans, guiding test execution, and documenting results.
- Manage project teams through regular meetings, assigning tasks, reviewing progress, and documenting updates.
- Serve as the primary contact for internal and, in some cases, external customers during project development and implementation.
- Manage all technical aspects of the project including scope development, savings analyses, and constructability reviews.
- Create, edit, and review all external deliverables (customer reports, bid packages, contract documents) and internal documents (risk‑review packages, deal‑review documents, project records).
- Assist Sales with customer presentations and interviews, including leadership‑level meetings as needed.
- Work with Legal and Finance to qualify vendors/subcontractors and negotiate customer/vendor contracts and change orders.
- Collaborate with construction managers and subcontractors to establish detailed project schedules with clear milestones.
- Monitor project schedule progress, adjust as needed, and communicate changes to leadership, sales, construction managers, vendors, and customers.
- Execute all fiduciary requirements including managing installation budgets, approving invoices, ensuring timely customer payments, and completing monthly forecasts.
- Ensure all projects are set up properly in the designated project‑management software platform and that all construction documentation is complete and up to date at closeout (e.g., drawings, RFIs, submittals, warranties).
- Work with the Labor Compliance Team to ensure all local labor‑compliance regulations are met and follow up with subcontractors to collect required documents.
- Coordinate with post‑construction teams on savings guarantees and maintenance expectations to ensure a smooth transition at project completion.
- Ability to review engineering work across typical energy‑project scopes and provide guidance aligned with customer needs.
- Understand contract scopes of work and ensure alignment with subcontractor scopes.
- Review and improve energy analyses performed by others.
- Understand Project Engineer responsibilities in project development.
- Understand durations and requirements of energy‑measure development and delivery.
- Prepare and interpret pro formas.
- Understand general construction methods and work effectively with construction managers to execute projects.
- Apply analytical and financial skills to predict customer economics and manage project budgets.
- Demonstrate negotiation skills that protect company interests while maintaining customer and vendor relationships.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications — You Must Have
- Minimum 7 years of experience working in the Commercial and Industrial sector.
- Knowledge of BESS and onsite generation technologies (including Solar PV) and experience managing and delivering complex projects.
- Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
- Ability to travel 20–40% based on project requirements.
- Strong technical communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong schedule adherence and collaborative problem‑solving skills.
- High standards for accuracy and completeness in project documentation.
- Ability to prepare customer reports and RFX responses aligned with customer needs.
- Ability to create and execute project‑development and delivery schedules.
- Ability to meet high attendance requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments with accuracy and reliability.
- Ability to use a company‑issued computer.
