Position Summary:
The O.R. Janitor/Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in hospital operating rooms and surrounding areas. This role requires strict adherence to cleaning protocols, infection control standards, and safety procedures to support patient care and ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Perform terminal cleaning and disinfection of operating rooms after surgical procedures.
- Follow hospital infection control policies, including proper handling and disposal of biohazardous waste, sharps, and contaminated materials.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, surgical tables, equipment, walls, and floors.
- Restock supplies such as linens, soap, hand sanitizer, and paper products in assigned areas.
- Operate and maintain janitorial equipment such as mops, auto scrubbers, and vacuum cleaners.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission, and hospital safety standards.
- Use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Collaborate with medical staff to ensure rooms are ready for the next procedure.
- Report any maintenance or safety issues immediately to supervisors.
- High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Previous experience in hospital or healthcare cleaning (preferred but not required; training provided).
- Knowledge of infection control and bloodborne pathogen standards.
- Ability to follow strict cleaning protocols with attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a healthcare team.
- Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs., stand for long periods, and perform repetitive motions.
- Hospital/Operating Room setting.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, biohazardous materials, and potentially stressful situations.
- Requires flexible scheduling, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
