Description
The JSU Postal Department is accepting applications for its Shipping and Receiving Processor position.
Examples of Duties
- Receive, sort, process, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and packages for students, faculty, staff, and University departments.
- Process USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, and other carrier shipments in accordance with university procedures.
- Create shipping labels, enter shipment information, scan packages, and maintain accurate tracking records.
- Operate postage meters, scanners, scales, label printers, shipping software, and other postal equipment.
- Provide customer service and assist students, faculty, staff, and departments with shipping and package-related questions.
- Verify, organize, and distribute packages to designated mailboxes, package areas, and smart lockers.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with tracking missing, damaged, returned, or misdirected mail and packages.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work area while protecting the confidentiality of mail and package information.
- Follow all University, Postal, carrier, safety, and security procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Postal Manager.
Typical Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in shipping, receiving, mailroom, warehouse, postal services, logistics, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures, package handling, and mail processing.
- Ability to accurately enter and maintain information in computer systems and shipping software.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email.
- Ability to operate or learn shipping equipment, postage meters, scanners, label printers, package scales, and related technology.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to sort, process, track, and distribute a high volume of mail and packages.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull packages and mail weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, departments, vendors, and delivery carriers.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing packages, mail, shipping labels, tracking information, and departmental shipments.
