The Information Technology (IT) System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure in a healthcare environment. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values and regulatory/legislative requirements. This position has some limited interaction and responsibility for wireless networks, network switches, and network firewall installation, configuration, and operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ RESPONSIBILITIES
- The SA is accountable for all server and network systems and infrastructure that form the information technology backbone and foundation of the organization. Responsibilities on these systems include SA engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation and reliability.
- Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
- Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements, as well as regulatory compliance.
- Install and configure systems such as necessary to support or improve the hospital and clinical operations of the organization.
- Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures for secure system implementation.
- Contribute to and maintain system standards and documentation.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Respond appropriately to reported cybersecurity threats and risks and implement corrective activity as needed.
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent offsite as necessary.
- Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
- Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
- Provide support upon request from various departments and escalate as necessary to ensure issue resolution.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted users, departments, or locations.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
- Upgrade and configure system software that supports organizational per project or operational needs.
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
- Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times. Follows HIPAA regulations.
- Maintains current knowledge of all procedures of department.
- Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time frames.
- Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
- Adheres to all JPH policies and procedures.

Requirements
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School graduate or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent field preferred.
- Three years of experience in Information Technology preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
- None required; Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or higher, VMware Certified Associate (VCA) or higher, and CompTIA A or higher preferred.
LANGUAGE and PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong written and verbal skills.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner.
- Ability to work long hours between breaks and meals, if necessary.
- Knowledge of various office productivity software programs such as word processing, databases, spreadsheet programs, and communications software.
- Knowledge of design, management, and operation of managed IT systems.
MACHINERY/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be familiar with operation of telephone, fax machine, copy machine, computer (desktop, notebook handheld), server computer hardware, printer, and calculator. Ability to troubleshoot issues related to computer systems and software within the hospital.
