What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instructor - Cosmetology - Adult Career Enrichment (PT) position at Jackson County ISD?
Summary: Oversee clinic and cosmetology students who are working to reinforce concepts learned during cosmetology class. Students provide cosmetology services for clinic customers to meet state mandated requirement to complete 1,500 hours of cosmetology training and skill practice to seek state licensure. The Clinic Supervisor also oversees the clinic during the summer schedule (outside the K-12 school year), monitoring the students and their practice, and documents observations.
Working Hours: The assignment hours during the high school academic year will be Monday through Friday, 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities: Work is performed under the general supervision of administration. An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (Does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)
- Provide students with an orientation to the salon, including salon duties, sanitation procedures, dispensary/stock room, maintaining client sheets for services, and front desk procedures.
- Follow and enforce all policies and procedures in support of a safe work environment for students and staff.
- Create a clinic environment that is professional and encourage students to improve their professional and customer relations skills. As appropriate, encourage students to set and maintain standards of clinic behavior.
- Create an environment of respect and rapport.
- Assess the accomplishments, skills and techniques of students on a regular basis.
- Update student records and monitor student hours for state licensure. Maintain all required records to ensure accuracy and completeness and processes them as instructed.
- Update skills checklist of services.
- Maintain and care for tools, equipment, laboratory and clinic in a manner that meets industry standards. Notifiy appropriate administrator of the need for outside maintenance. Advise Cosmetology Instructor(s) when inventory needs to be replenished.
- Set up computerized appointment book and service lists.
- Set up register and accurately manage financial transactions.
- Follow all building and Board of Education policies and guidelines. Must be attentive to district and program update information that will generally be provided via district e-mail account.
- Keep current with industry standards and practices.
- Participate in professional development activities, some of which may be outside the contractual workday.
- Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required for this position.
- Other duties assigned by the Principal or AdultCareer Education Supervisor.
Education and/or Experience:
- Must meet all the requirements established by the State of Michigan to have and maintain a Cosmetology Instructor's license, including three years of relevant practical experience. Candidates with experience as a cosmetology instructor may be given preference.
- Must have a record of successful experience working cooperatively with others.
- Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate basic computer skills.
- Candidates with experience as a cosmetology instructor may be given preference.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Candidates must have and maintain a Michigan Cosmetology Instructor's license. Preference may be given to applicants who are able to obtain appropriate professional certification and endorsement upon employment to be a Michigan high school Cosmetology Instructor.
Other Skills and Abilities: Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with students of various skill levels, academic levels and diverse ethnic and gender backgrounds. Able to establish and model effective relationships with other staff, parents and clinic customers. Committed to participating in industry specific technical updates to upgrade skills. Able to organize work and meet deadlines. Able to perform work outside the instructional day as needed for the assignment, which may include participating in student events and competitions. The position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, The position occasionally requires irregular or extended work hours. The employee is responsible for the safety of students. Must be able to meet demands from several people.
Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits: Anticipated employment date is as soon as possible. Pay rate is $34.84 per hour with no fringe benefits. This position is part-time.
