Teacher - Emotionally Impaired
Summary: Provide educational and personal/social service for emotionally impaired students. Duties include classroom instruction and development of behavioral management strategies. Assessment of students, student guidance, parent conferencing and other related duties as assigned. Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (Does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform.)
- Implement instructional activities defined by existing performance objectives.
- Plan and develop student activities in coordination with teacher assistants.
- Maintain effective relationships with ancillary staff and parents.
- Maintain all records pertaining to instructional activities.
- Provide a basic core program for emotionally impaired students and sees to the development of behavioral management strategies.
- Work with students to improve relationships.
- Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
- Plan curriculum, lessons, Special Education programs and teaching methods.
- Evaluate students' progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observations made in and out of the classroom.
- Maintain the physical environment of the classroom.
- Maintain contact with parents of students.
- Work with staff to coordinate goals and objectives.
- Assist the emotionally impaired students in making a realistic assessment of their abilities and establishing educational goals in keeping with these abilities.
- Evaluate a student's progress based on work output and observation; determine goals, objectives and directions.
- Assist in screening, evaluating and recommending placements of applicants in the schools emotionally impaired program.
- Prepare report cards, educational records, IEP forms, classroom observation records, and other forms.
- Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required for his position.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Certifications, and Experience: Bachelor's degree in special education required. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with the required full approval in the area of Emotional Impairment. Must meet highly qualified guidelines.
Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits: Anticipated employment date is as soon as possible. Placement on the Special Education Certified Salary Schedule will depend on qualifications and experience. New employee starting salary range is $54,619-$109,456. Paid health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurances, sick and personal business days. This position is FLSA exempt.
