Why This Job -- Staff Accountant
An established company here in Bozeman has started to revamp how they are doing business. They have a long-lasting legacy and have been successful, but are now gearing up for new initiatives and growth. One area they are focused on revamping is the accounting and finance team. They have already brought in an accomplished Controller to the team, and she's now looking to add her first hire.
This is a great role for someone with a little bit of accounting experience who wants to accelerate their career trajectory. You'll be stepping into a role where you will get hands-on training from day one and exposure to all aspects of a business instead of getting siloed into just one function.
The company has a great culture and genuinely does things as a team. You'll be able to work closely with other departments, get a sense of how the business impacts the financials, and really understand the "why" behind everything. You'll also get to contribute to major projects and initiatives each quarter, in addition to owning the day to day.
This is a great fit for someone who is genuinely curious about accounting and is looking for a strong mentor here in Bozeman.
What You’ll Actually Do:
- Own daily bank, credit card, and account reconciliations. Keep the GL tight and catch issues before they compound.
- Drive month-end and year-end close from start to finish, including journal entries, accruals, and prepaid schedules.
- Build and maintain fixed asset schedules, vehicle fleet records, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Handle AP, AR, and cash applications end to end. Manage vendor records and keep everything current.
- Track and reconcile vendor rebates across the portfolio. There's a spreadsheet doing this job right now. You'll probably want to fix that.
- Help build the company's first-ever formal budget, then own the actuals-vs-plan updates and flag variances when something looks off.
- Support internal controls and accounting policy compliance as the finance function gets more structured.
- Jump into special projects and process improvements as they come up. This is a growing function, so they will.
What You Bring:
- 1–3 years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally in a transactional or operational accounting role. Internship experience counts.
- Solid foundation in GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with data and reconciliations.
- Experience with an ERP system
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related program.
Where and How Much:
- Location: Belgrade, MT. 100% in-office.
- Compensation: $70,000–$75,000 depending on experience.
- Benefits: Low premium for health, vision and dental for the employee, PTO 401(k) with 6% employer match after one year.
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30am–4:30pm.
Salary : $70,000 - $75,000
