Why this job – MONTANA DOT TRANSPORTATION GROUP MANAGER:
A well-established engineering firm is seeking a Transportation Group Manager to lead its Montana DOT (MDT) team.
In this role, you’ll oversee a team of 6 production staff responsible for delivering MDT roadway projects while working alongside experienced project managers and senior technical staff. The team is already strong and busy, they need a leader, mentor, and coach to help elevate performance and guide career development.
This is a high-impact position where you’ll combine leadership, technical oversight, and business development while helping drive continued growth of the transportation group.
What You’ll Actually Do:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers and designers supporting MDT roadway and transportation projects
- Oversee project delivery including schedules, budgets, and quality across a large portfolio of active work
- Serve as a technical resource in roadway design, alignment, hydraulics, and related transportation disciplines
- Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and coordinate training and development plans
- Partner with senior leadership and project managers to ensure successful execution of MDT projects
- Support business development efforts including client relationships and proposal development for new work
What We’re Looking For:
- B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field
- PE License in MT (or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
- 10 years of transportation/roadway design experience
- Prior leadership or people management experience
- Experience working with MDT or similar DOT clients preferred
- Strong communication, mentorship, and team leadership skills
Where and How Much:
- In office in Missoula, Helena, Bozeman or Billings MT. Relocation assistance provided
- Target compensation $125k–$165k DOE discretionary bonus
