Shop Autobody Technician

Reports to

Shop Supervisor

Job purpose

This Technician will perform minor and major autobody repairs with minimal supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of company vehicles.

Duties and responsibilities

• Evaluate designs and specs
• Performs sanding and grinding
• Assist or perform rebuilds, replacements, or repairs of autobody components and damaged parts.
• Customize autobody parts to specification.
• Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to company safety procedures, and follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties
• Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA Standards, ensuring shop equipment and tools are in safe operating condition
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Education and Experience

· Knowledge of all tools required to perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles

· Ability to follow schedules, instructions, technical manuals and maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of the company fleet

· Ability to judge the distance between equipment and an object

· Ability to repeatedly adjust the control and placement of equipment to exact position

· Ability to recognize unacceptable waste (such as gasoline or other flammable materials)

· Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other state and federal regulations

· Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers

· Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity and trust

· Ability to prioritize workload and meet time sensitive deadlines

· Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a team environment or as an individual contributor

· Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

· Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports and associated documents

· Ability to make simple and repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists

· Knowledge of proper lifting techniques

· Ability to follow all company safety policies and procedures

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Required:

• High School diploma or GED
• Minimum of 1-2 years of auto body experience
• Valid state issued driver’s license
• Must have own tools appropriate for position, specialty tools supplied by the company
• Welding experience preferred not required

Working conditions

Working conditions at J&L Contracting, LLC include working in shop elements. Some positions may include enduring hot weather, standing for extended periods of time on concrete flooring, dirt and lifting heavy objects to waist height and/or above the head.

Physical requirements

Lift and carry up to 100 pounds up to 30% of the time. When needed wear PPE, maintain a steady pace which may require lifting objects above and/or below the waist.

Condition of Employment

Successful candidate may need to submit to random and/or DOT drug testing throughout employment and successfully pass a background check.

Hours/Schedule/Pay: Monday-Friday, 7am-5pm with some overtime required. Saturday availability needed during busy season.
