Position Purpose
The SEL–Wellness Coach strengthens the social-emotional and mental well-being of the Knox learning community by equipping students and staff with the tools to regulate emotions, build relationships, and thrive together.
Working closely with the school administration and the Wellness & Belonging Team, the SEL–Wellness Coach develops systems, professional learning, and daily routines that promote student flourishing and staff wellness. This role advances Knox’s mission — Engaged Today. Transforming Tomorrow. — through the Core Commitments of Wellness & Belonging, Deep Engagement, and Rigorous Learning for All.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Student Wellness & Social-Emotional Learning
- Lead implementation of SEL frameworks and lessons that build emotional literacy, resilience, and empathy.
- Collaborate with teachers to embed SEL practices into daily instruction and Student Strong Start routines.
- Facilitate small groups or individual support sessions for students focusing on self-regulation, relationships, and goal setting.
- Co-design and facilitate student leadership or peer mentorship programs to strengthen belonging and purpose.
- Monitor wellness indicators (attendance, Panorama data, student voice feedback) to guide support strategies.
Adult Wellness & Professional Learning
- Model and co-lead Adult Strong Start sessions that emphasize reflection, mindfulness, and connection.
- Design and facilitate professional learning for staff on SEL, trauma-informed practice, and wellness strategies.
- Support teacher well-being by fostering healthy team culture and balance between accountability and care.
- Collaborate with the Campus Leader and Associate Leaders to integrate wellness practices into professional development and meeting structures.
Culture & Collaboration
- Partner with the Dean of Students to create consistent, restorative systems for behavior and belonging.
- Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and the MTSS team to ensure a coordinated approach to student well-being.
- Participate in the Wellness & Belonging Team to analyze data and design proactive culture initiatives.
Family & Community Partnerships
- Engage families in understanding and supporting SEL and wellness practices at home.
- Connect students and families to community resources and agencies for additional mental health or wellness support.
- Partner with local organizations to provide enrichment and mentoring opportunities that align with Passion & Career-Connected Learning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
Minimum three years of successful experience in counseling, teaching, or youth development.
- Demonstrated understanding of SEL frameworks, adolescent development, and trauma-informed practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or related field.
- Certification or advanced training in SEL curriculum facilitation, mindfulness, or restorative practices.
- Experience leading professional development or coaching educators.
- Experience supporting middle grades students and staff in diverse, inclusive environments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Deep understanding of SEL competencies and adolescent development.
- Skill in facilitation, coaching, and program coordination.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze data, design responsive supports, and monitor outcomes.
- Commitment to equity, wellness, and continuous improvement.
