Supplemental Position: Athletic Director
Position Purpose
The Teacher – Athletic Director serves in a dual role as a classroom or enhancement/exploratory teacher and as the school’s Athletic Director. The selected candidate will deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction while coordinating and overseeing all middle school athletic programs as a supplemental responsibility. This position supports student achievement, wellness, safety, and engagement by promoting teamwork, leadership, and positive school culture through both instruction and athletics.

Key Duties and Responsibilities–Teacher
Instructional Design & Delivery
- Plan and deliver standards-aligned lessons that foster critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving.
- Integrate project-based and inquiry-based learning experiences aligned to the 4E Framework (Explore, Engage, Experience, Employ).
- Design assessments and feedback cycles that promote growth and reflection.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of all learners.
Classroom Culture & Relationships
- Establish a safe, inclusive, and joyful classroom culture grounded in restorative practices and belonging.
- Facilitate Student Strong Start routines to build connection and readiness each day.
- Model respect, curiosity, and empathy in interactions with students and colleagues.
Professional Collaboration
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on data, student work, and instructional improvement.
- Collaborate with the Literacy Coach, PBL / 4E Coordinator, and CCL Team to integrate relevance and real-world application into lessons.
- Engage in Adult Strong Start and ongoing professional development.
Communication & Family Partnership
- Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress, learning goals, and celebrations.
- Collaborate with the Family & Community Engagement Coordinator to involve parents and guardians in learning experiences.
Supplemental Responsibilities–Athletic Director
- Coordinate school athletic programs, including coaching staff and cheerleading
- Ensure compliance with Rowan-Salisbury Schools, NCHSAA, DPI, and Gfeller-Waller Act requirements
- Maintain all required student-athlete eligibility, medical, and insurance documentation
- Ensure coaching staff maintain required certifications and training.
- Coordinate athletic schedules and communicate with the County Athletic Director.
- Supervise and manage all home athletic events in collaboration with school administration.
- Arrange transportation for any away athletic events.
- Assist with planning athletic budgets and oversee expenditures, purchase requests, and inventories.
- Coordinate the maintenance and use of athletic facilities.
- Serve as liaison to booster clubs, PTAs, and community partners related to athletics.
- Submit required documentation regarding anticipated needs of the athletic program, adhering to expenditure deadlines and budgetary limits.
- Approve:
- Athletic publicity for the school
- Purchase requests of equipment and supplies
- Facilitate required pre-season sports meetings that review NCHSAA, Rowan-Salisbury Schools, and team rules.
- Coordinate school-sponsored athletic awards programs and banquets.
Required Qualifications
- Valid North Carolina Teaching License in the relevant subject area.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or the appropriate content field.
- Demonstrated success improving student outcomes.
- Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating or supporting middle school athletic programs.
- Knowledge of NCHSAA rules and athletic compliance requirements.
- Experience with project-based learning or career-connected instruction.
- Familiarity with restorative practices and SEL integration.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth.
