Intern Job Description: Operations Field
Seasonal Intern
The function of a construction intern is to observe and acquire introductory skills to assist in learning role of an onsite construction field manager. Informal and formal training will be used as a resource to assist in developing and executing each of these skills sets.
Result Area #1 Scheduling
- · Understand the sequence of events in the process of building a home
- · Learn the scheduling system and how it communicates with our trades
- · Learn to create a paper workflow schedule
- · Learn how to plan, organize and prioritize scheduling responsibilities to meet the deadline of home complete to our customers
- · Learn the process of walking homes and updating the schedule daily and notify trades when work is ready
- · Assist in the actual scheduling of homes under construction
Key Result Area #2 Quality
- · Review the quality standards and observe operations team members performing a quality performance review inspection
- · Assist in identifying items to be corrected by trades and write up correlating punch work lists to be communicated with trades
- · Assist in identifying items for correction and review items identified during the construction process. Create lists to allow the teams to stay organized in completion of the home
- · Review and observe the cleanliness of the jobsite, and take action to maintain a high level of cleanliness everyday
Key Result Area #3 Communication
- · Understand and apply the Shea Homes Vision, Purpose, and Core Values in all areas of your job.
- · Attend customer appointments with Operations Team members to understand the process of a customer walk through and home delivery
- · Use Outlook to schedule appointments and meetings. Review and respond to appropriate emails daily
Key Result Area #4 Safety/Environmental Compliance
- · Learn how to identify and address area of concern for a safe and compliant job site
- · Follow the OSHA guidelines for proper PPE. (Personal Protective Equipment)

- · Required to communicate verbally and in writing
- · Frequently required to stand, sit, squat, kneel, and occasionally crawl
- · Required to climb stairs and ladders
- · Required to walk one plus miles per day on uneven ground
- · Will be exposed to weather such as heat, cold, rain, and possibly snow
- · Noise level can be unusually loud
- · May need to carry items up to 60 pounds for 100 feet
- · Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and assignments

Able to communicate effectively on the telephone, cell phone and the computer. Able to sit for long periods of time for extensive computer work, data entry, typing, phone calls, etc. Able to drive to Shea Homes community sites and other locations as necessary for training and to perform essential duties. Must be able to walk in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain of jobsites, on varying construction surfaces, climb stairs and lift up to 25 pounds in order to handle boxes, archive files, office supplies etc. as necessary. Walking throughout the office, to the copier and printer. Frequent kneeling and bending for filing office and homeowner material.
