What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatic Product Design Engineer II position at Iwaki America, Inc.?

Perform engineering functions to support Iwaki Aquatic product development. Produce engineering documentation to define and maintain product designs. The Product Design Engineer will be a key member of the team to architect, design, develop, test and release new products with mechanical, electrical, and logic subsystems as well as continuing engineering to maintain and improve the performance and reliability of existing products. This is a great opportunity to develop new and innovative products and learn a variety of skills, technologies, and methodologies as part of a product development team.


Essential Functions:

•Produce documentation to define new products: theory of operation and functional specifications, system architecture, P&ID, process flow diagrams, logic diagrams, component sourcing and sizing.

•Extensive use of SolidWorks and PDM to develop, manage, and maintain designs from concept to production.

•Follow company ISO protocols and ECOs for new product development.

•Utilize in-house ERP/MRP system to load new parts & BOMs

•Produce product specification brochures and user manuals.

•Continuing Engineering of existing products to support enhancements, component replacements, cost reductions and resolve vendor issues and revise products from manufacturing, sales or service feedback.

•Work with Sales and other engineers to help define new products or custom solutions.

•Participate in R&D and prototyping to validate product fit/form/function.

•Utilize in-house 3D printer & CNC machine for rapid prototyping as applicable

•Maintain product design processes, procedures, and standard products per company requirements

•Effectively communicate technical and project status information in both oral and written form to peers and management.

•Participate in design and feasibility studies for new products and technologies

•Perform in-house testing on products as needed

•Manage time and expenses against project quotes/budgets and address any unfavorable variances during and after project execution to ensure they will not be repeated in the future



Essential Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electro Mechanical Engineering or related field.

•3-5 years of product design experience

•High proficiency using Solid Works

•Systems oriented thinker with high attention to detail

•Forward thinking, self-starter that takes initiative to see all projects to conclusion through diligent & creative solutions

•Fundamental understanding of the product development process and experience analyzing existing designs to lower costs and improve reliability, manufacturability (DFM), assembly (DFA), and serviceability

•Proven record of successfully developing electro-mechanical solutions to meet technical specifications, cost, packaging, and other design constraints using a combination of simulation, analysis, prototyping and testing

•Demonstrated experience performing all aspects of system engineering including writing specifications, analysis and design, component selection and documentation

•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities (or independently on several projects simultaneously – not sure which one is better?); effective at dealing with change and ambiguity as business needs shift, demonstrating flexibility while ensuring compliance

•Ability to effectively present technical issues to peers and management

•Experience with designing products to meet IEC 61010, NFPA 79, UL 508A Standards

•Experience with fluidic systems, electronics, robotics, or process controls

•Interest in aquariums, fishkeeping, or aquaculture systems
