What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underground Driller (Sarasota, FL) EG178 position at ITG Communications?
The Underground Driller Operator performs a variety of tasks, operating various types of equipment primarily related to the construction of telecommunications and a Fiber-to-the-Home (FttH) Network. This position will operate heavy to light excavation equipment as well as place and bury fiber pathways, including the operation of horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment, and product support equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operates excavation equipment for the installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.
- Prepares construction sites for building, demolition, or excavation.
- Transports tools and other construction equipment to and from construction sites.
- Responsible for avoiding existing cables and digging in accordance with blueprints and designated plans.
- Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
- Set up and clean the work site, including traffic and pedestrian control.
- Inspects and fuels the vehicle before beginning the shift.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs.
- Reads utility locates and coordinates daylighting of these facilities.
- Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site.
- Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications.
- Operates construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Ensuring sites are kept clean and safe.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one (2) years' experience. Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
- On-the-job training offered. Must be available to work long periods, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
