Job Description
The Design Engineer II is responsible for the design, review, and optimization of Fiber to the Home (FTTH) Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) network infrastructure. This role independently develops detailed construction-ready designs, generates bills of materials, and ensures compliance with company and client standards.
The Design Engineer II serves as a technical resource within the Engineering team, providing design oversight, supporting cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring junior designers to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to quality standards.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Telecommunications, or related field) preferred.

Responsibilities
- Design and develop detailed OSP and ISP fiber layouts in accordance with industry and client specifications.
- Generate bills of materials (BOM), splice sheets, and supporting documentation.
- Develop detailed ISP patch panel diagrams and cable rack layouts, optimizing spatial configuration and cable management.
- Review completed designs for errors, constructability issues, and cost inefficiencies.
- Conduct internal quality audits to maintain design integrity and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with FTTH industry standards, company design criteria, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of ArcGIS/ESRI and AutoCAD tools.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Field Teams, and Construction personnel to support project execution.
- Mentor Design Engineer I team members and provide technical guidance as needed.
- Manage assigned design projects and meet established deadlines.
- Support continuous improvement of design standards, templates, and processes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned

Experience
- 3 years of experience in telecommunications network design.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Design Engineer I or equivalent role.
- Experience with ArcGIS/ESRI products required.
- 2 years of AutoCAD experience preferred.
- Experience with FTTH OSP and ISP design required.
- Primarily office-based environment with extended CAD and GIS system usage.
- Periodic field visits to active OSP construction sites.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions during site inspections.
- Exposure to construction environments requiring PPE.
- Travel up to 30% based on project requirements.
- Produces high-quality, construction-ready designs with minimal oversight.
- Ensures accuracy and compliance while optimizing efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Provides technical support and mentorship to junior team members.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods (6–8 hours daily).
- Ability to travel to field sites and navigate active construction environments.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
