Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Assistant to join our finance team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support various accounting functions within a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, familiarity with multiple financial software platforms, and a solid understanding of accounting principles such as GAAP and SOX compliance. The Accounting Assistant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Duties
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, including data entry and invoice management
- Perform general ledger accounting tasks such as journal entries, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation
- Manage financial data entry and maintain organized records within accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, or Workday
- Prepare and analyze account statements, perform account analysis, and assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls and internal audit requirements
- Assist in budgeting, credit analysis, and financial reporting activities
- Support the preparation of tax documentation and assist with governmental accounting requirements for non-profit or public sector entities
- Conduct account reconciliations for various accounts including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger accounts
- Perform double-entry bookkeeping adhering to GAAP standards and ensure accuracy in debits & credits
- Support technical accounting projects involving complex journal entries or financial concepts
Experience
- Proven experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, PeopleSoft, Workday, ADP, Kronos, UltiPro, Ceridian or similar platforms
- Strong understanding of financial concepts including general ledger accounting, account reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, and journal entries
- Knowledge of SOX compliance standards and governmental or non-profit accounting practices is preferred
- Familiarity with payroll management systems like ADP or Ceridian along with experience in payroll processing is advantageous
- Experience in public accounting or corporate accounting environments is highly desirable
- Ability to perform data entry accurately using 10 key typing skills and double-entry bookkeeping techniques
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data accurately
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in maintaining financial records and supporting documentation
