What are the responsibilities and job description for the Misdemeanor Paralegal position at Island County?
The Island County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office is seeking a full-time paralegal to join our District Court Unit. Our team of prosecutors and paralegals are dedicated to holding criminals accountable, while ensuring the fundamental guarantees of due process and justice are fulfilled in every case. The employee in this position will provide paralegal support for a misdemeanor caseload. A desire to learn and to serve our community in the administration of justice is essential for any applicant. Those with experience or training in the criminal justice field are preferred. The well-qualified candidate will have significant history working in criminal proceedings. Strong written and oral communication skills are a must. Also important is the ability to keep perspective, humility, and humor in a sometimes intense working environment.

Hourly pay:
Grade 8: $22.38
Grade 9: $24.30
Grade 10: $26.22
Provide paralegal support to the Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys of the Criminal Division.
Prepare charging documents and other court documents. File case documents with court and provide to defense when necessary.
Process police reports and prepare discovery to be provided to defense.
Maintain case files in online case management system.
Prepare trial materials.
Communicate professionally and effectively with professionals, victims, parties, and colleagues.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of, and experience with, misdemeanor and/or felony cases.
Knowledge of legal terminology, proper format for legal pleadings and briefs, as well as District Court and Superior Court rules and procedures.
Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of sensitive material.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong user level computer skills
Bachelor’s Degree, Paralegal Certificate, Professional Legal Secretary (PLS), or equivalent work experience.
