Seasonal Field Technician - Noxious Weed Control Program

Primary responsibilities: conduct or aid noxious weed control efforts on behalf of the County in public and private settings, assist the Program coordinator with field-oriented tasks or office work as directed. They may assist n the production of a variety of documents such as reports, weed management plans, news articles, website content, and other publications as directed by staff of the Noxious Weed Control Board. 

Employee in this position is given some discretion within the scope, policy and regulations in the performance of their duties.  Individual in this position reports directly to the Noxious Weed Control Program Coordinator. Oversight may be provided by the Department of Natural Resources Manager.

Position is open until filled.

• Perform fieldwork to locate, identify and map noxious weeds within the County. 
• Work independently or with volunteers, crews and employees of public agencies in the field on noxious weed control. 
• Must obtain a Washington state certified public operator herbicide license with endorsements in Right of Way and aquatic weeds. 
• Regularly attend the meetings of and reports to the Island County Noxious Weed Control Board. 
• Contact and offer technical assistance to property owners with noxious weed infestations. 
• Develop or advance personal knowledge of noxious weeds and control methods. 
• Assist in the development of public education materials under the discretion of the Coordinator and Noxious Weed Control Board. 
• Act within the scope of their responsibilities, working as a public employee with courtesy and professionalism, and adhering to the highest standard of ethics in accordance with RCW 42.52.

• Valid Washington State Driver’s License.
• High school degree or equivalent certification. 
• Ability to operate power equipment desirable.
