Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and DRG codes in accordance with current coding guidelines.
- Ensure proper documentation supports all coded diagnoses and procedures for accurate billing and reimbursement.
- Prepare and submit insurance claims using advanced billing software and electronic medical record (EMR) systems, ensuring timely processing of health insurance claims.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by investigating discrepancies and resubmitting corrected claims to third-party payers.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations related to medical coding and billing practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or coding issues that could impact revenue cycle management.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, including ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding, and medical coding guidelines to ensure ongoing compliance.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding systems, including coding for inpatient services and DRG classifications.
- Proficiency with billing software platforms and electronic health record (EHR/EHR) management systems for billing and coding purposes.
- Strong understanding of health insurance claim processing, third-party billing procedures, and revenue cycle management strategies.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records documentation standards, and medical coding guidelines.
- Experience working with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of health insurance policies, claim adjudication processes, and insurance third-party billing procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work efficiently under deadlines.
