The Mental Health Counseling (MA) program within the NewYork-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences at Iona University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position as Senior Clinical Lecturer and Program Director to begin in August 2026. The faculty member will have both teaching and administrative responsibilities. This includes teaching graduate-level courses including areas such as experimental and quantitative research methods, substance-related and addictive processes, trauma-informed care, and community-focused health.

Administrative responsibilities as program director will include course scheduling, curriculum development and program evaluation, oversight and support of faculty within the department, recruitment and retention of students, and overall leadership of departmental operations. Expectations include a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, a record of service, continuous professional development, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the School and University to enhance the visibility, impact, and reputation of Iona University.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate-level courses in areas including, but not limited to, experimental and quantitative research methods, substance-related addictive disorders, trauma-informed care, and community-focused health.
  • Develop new graduate courses aligned with the faculty member’s expertise and program needs.
  • Advise, mentor, and support graduate students.

 

Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight as Program Director/Department Chair for the Mental Health Counseling program.
  • Manage course scheduling for both full-time and adjunct faculty across academic terms to ensure adequate coverage and program continuity
  • Oversee and support faculty within the department, including hiring adjunct faculty, mentoring, evaluation, and coordination of instructional needs.
  • Lead curriculum development, assessment, and program evaluation efforts to maintain academic quality and alignment with accreditation standards.
  • Support graduate student recruitment by collaborating with the Graduate Director of Admissions and participating in outreach activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to support student retention and overall student success.
  • Facilitate collaboration across departments and participate in University initiatives that enhance the visibility, impact, and reputation of Iona University.

  • Demonstrate ongoing professional development in areas of teaching, service and professional practice.

Qualifications:

Educational Qualifications/credentials

  1. Candidates must have completed a PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology or PhD in Counselor Education.
  2. Candidates should be licensed as a mental health counselor or psychologist in New York State.
  3. Evidence of teaching graduate-level Mental Health Counseling courses
  4. At least five years of full-time relevant academic teaching experience

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems independently
  • Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Able to integrate clinical experience, teaching, and service, and collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty in the health science disciplines.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mental health counseling profession through relevant professional memberships, professional development activities, service/advocacy, and scholarly work.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Experience with electronic clinical management system (EXXAT)
  • SPSS skills, data analysis knowledge in Excel
  • Program Evaluation experience
