Role Overview

This key position has been created to support the company's ongoing growth and strategic initiatives in geothermal power. The Facilities Engineer will play a central role in designing, commissioning, and continuously improving state-of-the-art geothermal power facilities. Bringing expertise in plant design, operations, and maintenance, the successful candidate will help optimise energy output, enhance plant performance, and uphold rigorous safety and environmental standards-making this a truly impactful career move.

Key Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design geothermal surface facilities aimed at maximising electricity generation and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the development of system specifications, including turbines, piping, heat exchangers, and power conversion equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards and resource-specific requirements.
  • Conduct detailed engineering calculations to guide equipment selection, system sizing, and performance assessments.
  • Participate in design reviews and feasibility assessments to refine plant concepts and enhance constructability.
  • Support procurement through vendor evaluation, technical specifications, and performance analysis.
  • Assist with project planning, cost estimation, and scheduling to ensure timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Oversee the commissioning process, ensuring the plant starts-up smoothly and achieves operational targets.
  • Manage ongoing plant operations by monitoring performance data, identifying optimisation opportunities, and implementing upgrades.
  • Develop and execute maintenance programmes to prevent downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, including handling geothermal-specific challenges such as scaling, corrosion, and gas management.
  • Coordinate with reservoir and drilling teams to optimise wellfield-to-plant integration and resource management.
  • Ensure all activities adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, maintaining the highest quality and compliance.

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience:


  • Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Geothermal, Environmental Engineering, or a related field; a master's qualification is advantageous.
  • At least 10 years of practical experience in power plant engineering, ideally within geothermal facilities.
  • Proven expertise in designing and commissioning geothermal power plants, with familiarity in organic Rankine cycle (ORC) or flash steam systems.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and plant control systems.
  • Experience with plant monitoring tools (e.g., SCADA, PI System) and maintenance management software.
  • Knowledge of industry standards including ASME, API, and ANSI codes.
  • Demonstrated capability in vendor assessment, equipment specification, and cost estimation.

Desirable Skills & Experience:


  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams including geologists, drilling engineers, and environmental specialists.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques such as vibration analysis, thermography, and fluid analysis.
  • Ability to adapt designs based on operational feedback and emerging technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Flexibility to travel and work in outdoor, often remote, environments.
