Withers is globally recognised for its expertise in cross-border litigation and offers specialist capabilities across areas such as commercial litigation, asset recovery and enforcement, insolvency, fraud, international arbitration, white collar investigations, media and reputation management, employment and regulatory disputes, and trusts and succession matters.
The Role
This position is based in the firm’s San Francisco office and offers excellent exposure to high-value, complex litigation and white collar matters.
Responsibilities:
- Handling all phases of complex litigation and arbitration, with a focus on commercial and civil disputes
- Representing individuals in white collar criminal defence matters, including federal investigations, enforcement actions, and state-level prosecutions
- Providing strategic legal advice and client counselling, particularly in crisis response, reputation management, and litigation strategy
- Drafting pleadings, motions, memoranda, and conducting in-depth legal research
- Managing all aspects of discovery, including drafting and responding to requests, negotiating with opposing counsel, and reviewing productions
- Taking and defending depositions, attending hearings, and contributing to case strategy development
- Conducting and advising on internal investigations, including whistleblower claims, cybersecurity incidents, and regulatory inquiries
- Supporting business development initiatives, including writing articles, attending industry events, and building relationships with referral networks and intermediaries
Qualifications:
- J.D. with strong academic credentials
- 4–6 years’ experience within a law firm’s litigation and/or white collar practice
- California Bar admission in good standing
- Proven experience handling depositions, court proceedings, and complex disputes
- Excellent drafting, research, negotiation, and communication skills
- Exposure to federal and state-level white collar investigations
- Experience representing individuals in litigation (tech sector experience advantageous)
- Prior white collar defence experience preferred
- Strong client-facing and advisory experience
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
- Previous clerkship experience desirable
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and intellectual curiosity
- Collaborative mindset and team-oriented approach
