Position Summary
The Color Station Technician is responsible for the accurate preparation, measurement, and dispensing of pigments, dyes, and colorants used in the manufacturing of bulk cosmetic products. Working within the Bulk Operations team, this role ensures that all color matching and adjustments meet strict quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The Color Station Technician plays a key role in maintaining consistency, supporting efficient production, and helping the company deliver high-quality, visually precise cosmetic products to market.
Job Responsibilities
Color Preparation & Mixing
- Measure, weigh, and dispense pigments, dyes, and raw materials according to batch records, formulas, and work instructions.
- Operate color dispensing and mixing equipment, ensuring accuracy and repeatability in color preparation.
- Conduct small-scale test blends to confirm shade accuracy before bulk production.
- Maintain clean, organized, and calibrated color station equipment to ensure reliability and prevent cross-contamination.
Quality Control & Documentation
- Perform visual and instrumental color checks against approved color standards and retain samples.
- Document all color adjustments, raw material lot numbers, and formula changes in accordance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Record and update results in the company’s batch management and quality systems.
- Notify supervisors and Quality Control when color discrepancies or material issues are identified.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with Bulk Operators, Compounding Technicians, and Quality teams to ensure smooth workflow and timely resolution of color adjustments.
- Support production by preparing color batches in alignment with production schedules and order priorities.
- Assist in troubleshooting color-related issues during manufacturing, collaborating with R&D and Process Engineering when needed.
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and regulatory standards for cosmetic manufacturing.
- Follow established SOPs and Work Instructions for handling pigments and chemicals.
- Participate in safety, GMP, and technical training sessions to stay current with industry best practices.
Other Duties
- Maintain accurate inventory levels of colorants and notify supervisors of replenishment needs.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to efficiency, waste reduction, and color consistency.
- Support other Bulk Operations activities as required.
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Additional technical training or coursework in chemistry, color science, or cosmetics manufacturing preferred
- Basic understanding of pigments, dyes, and raw material handling in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of GMP and cosmetic industry quality standards preferred.
- Familiarity with color-matching techniques and instrumentation (spectrophotometers, colorimeters) is an advantage.
- 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing, laboratory, or cosmetics production environment preferred.
- Prior experience with weighing, mixing, or compounding operations highly desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow formulas with precision.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
- Basic computer literacy for data entry and system updates (ERP, batch tracking software).
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented production environment.
- Physically able to lift and handle materials up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
