Accounting Manager
Department: Finance
Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Position Summary:
The Accounting Manager plays a critical leadership role within the Finance Department, overseeing core accounting functions and ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting. This position supports the CFO in managing the company’s financial health, with a strong focus on job costing, project accounting, and compliance. The Accounting Manager will also supervise AR, AP, and Payroll staff, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting & General Ledger Management
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all entries.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Reconcile key accounts, including bank accounts, intercompany accounts, and balance sheet schedules.
- Maintain fixed asset ledger.
2. Construction Accounting & Job Costing
- Monitor job cost activity and ensure accurate allocation of labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and overhead.
- Collaborate with project managers to review job cost reports, WIP schedules, and budget-to-actual variances.
- Assist in preparing WIP reports and supporting schedules.
3. Internal Controls & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls across AR, AP, and Payroll functions.
- Support external audits by preparing schedules and documentation.
4. Leadership & Team Oversight
- Supervise and mentor AR, AP, and Payroll staff.
- Provide training, performance feedback, and workflow guidance.
- Ensure timely completion of billing, collections, vendor payments, and payroll processing.
5. Cash Flow & Treasury Support
- Assist the CFO with cash flow forecasting and monitoring.
- Review weekly cash requirements and approve disbursements.
- Monitor collections and aging reports.
6. Systems & Process Improvement
- Support implementation and optimization of accounting and construction management systems.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve reporting accuracy.
Education & Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
· 5–7 years of accounting experience, ideally in construction.
· Experience with materials inventory, fixed asset accounting, and payroll accounting.
· Experience supervising accounting and payroll staff preferred.
· Experience with Human Resource functions not required, but a plus.
Skills & Competencies
· Strong understanding of GAAP and construction accounting principles.
· Proficiency in MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
· Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Quickbooks, Sage 300, Viewpoint, Foundation).
