About the Role:
The Mammography Technician plays a critical role in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases by performing high-quality mammographic imaging procedures. This position requires the technician to operate specialized imaging equipment to capture detailed breast images that assist radiologists in identifying abnormalities. The role demands meticulous attention to patient comfort and safety, ensuring that all procedures comply with regulatory standards and best practices. The Mammography Tech collaborates closely with healthcare professionals to maintain accurate patient records and support diagnostic processes. Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- Current certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) with a Mammography (M) certification.
- Valid state licensure to perform mammography procedures where applicable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of mammography equipment operation and radiation safety.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a clinical or hospital setting performing mammography.
- Additional certifications in breast imaging or related diagnostic modalities.
- Familiarity with digital mammography and 3D tomosynthesis technology.
- Training in patient education and support for breast cancer screening programs.
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
Responsibilities:
- Perform mammographic imaging procedures following established protocols and safety guidelines.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately to obtain clear and accurate breast images.
- Operate and maintain mammography equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning correctly.
- Review images for quality and completeness before submitting them for radiologist interpretation.
- Maintain detailed patient records, including imaging results and procedural documentation.
- Educate patients about the mammography process to alleviate concerns and ensure cooperation.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including radiation safety standards.
- Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare team members to support diagnostic and treatment planning.
