Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic Mortgage Underwriting Manager to lead our underwriting team with energy and precision. In this vital role, you will oversee the evaluation of mortgage applications, ensuring compliance with lending standards while managing risk effectively. Your expertise will drive the approval process, support strategic decision-making, and uphold our commitment to responsible lending.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the underwriting team to evaluate mortgage loan applications with accuracy and efficiency
• Oversee the analysis of financial documents, including income statements, tax returns, and credit reports to assess borrower eligibility
• Conduct comprehensive risk analysis by examining cash flow, debt-to-income ratios, and creditworthiness
• Develop and implement underwriting policies aligned with regulatory standards and company objectives
• Collaborate with loan processing and origination teams to streamline workflows and improve turnaround times
• Utilize financial modeling and data collection techniques to forecast loan performance and identify potential fraud or discrepancies
• Prepare detailed financial reports that support lending decisions and strategic planning
• Monitor team performance metrics, quality assurance, and adherence to established timelines
• Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment within the underwriting team to achieve and maintain a positive culture

Experience

• Proven experience in mortgage underwriting or financial analysis within the mortgage industry
• Strong knowledge of financial concepts such as cash flow analysis, risk assessment, and credit analysis
• Demonstrated ability in negotiation, portfolio management, and fraud prevention strategies
• Familiarity with technical accounting practices related to mortgage servicing and loan origination processes
• Excellent mathematical skills coupled with a solid understanding of banking regulations, tax considerations, and quantitative analysis techniques
• Prior leadership experience managing underwriting teams
• Effective leadership, communication and interpersonal abilities
• Proficiency in using underwriting software and tools, such as Encompass
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

This position is fully remote, however, as a manager there may be times where it is needed for you to come to the corporate office for meetings.
