We are seeking a Senior GIS Data Engineer / LRS Specialist to support a critical enterprise GIS initiative with NCDOT. This role focuses on the long-term maintenance, enhancement, and enterprise integration of a mature Hydrography GIS dataset.
You will work on complex geospatial data systems, ensuring data accuracy, stability, and seamless integration into the Enterprise GIS environment, with eventual transition to NCDEQ.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update GIS hydrography datasets (geometry, events, attributes)
- Support Linear Referencing System (LRS) workflows using ESRI Roads & Highways
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines for geospatial data processing
- Write and optimize SQL Server queries for data extraction, validation, and reporting
- Execute and enhance data QA/QC processes to ensure high data integrity
- Track progress, generate status reports, and communicate data issues/resolutions
- Support Enterprise GIS data migration and integration efforts
Required Skills & Experience
- 7 years of experience in GIS Data Engineering / Database environments
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Linear Referencing Systems (LRS)
- ESRI Roads & Highways (must-have)
- SQL Server (advanced querying, performance tuning)
- ETL development (data pipelines, transformation, automation)
- Data QA/QC frameworks and validation techniques
- Experience working with enterprise-level geospatial datasets
Nice to Have
- Experience with Department of Transportation (DOT) or environmental GIS data
- Exposure to Enterprise GIS architecture and data migration
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise / ESRI ecosystem
