Duties
- Perform rail switching operations to direct train movements accurately within rail yards and switching districts
- Operate heavy equipment such as track shunters, locomotives, and other specialized machinery to assist with switching tasks
- Conduct inspections of track switches, signals, and related infrastructure to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns
- Follow established safety procedures and protocols during all operations to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with industry standards
- Collaborate with dispatchers, maintenance crews, and other team members to coordinate efficient yard movements
- Maintain detailed logs of switching activities, equipment usage, and safety checks for record-keeping purposes
- Assist with routine mechanical troubleshooting and minor repairs on equipment as needed
Requirements
- Military experience or background is highly desirable, demonstrating discipline and technical aptitude
- Knowledge of air brake systems used in rail operations for safe train handling and switching procedures
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on heavy equipment and rail components
- Experience operating heavy machinery such as track shunters, locomotives, or similar equipment in industrial or transportation settings
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while maintaining safety standards
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and following instructions precisely
- Must possess a valid driver’s license; additional certifications related to rail operations are a plus
