Job Title: Senior Software Engineer - AI Backend

Position Type: Full-Time; Hybrid

Location: Palo Alto, CA

Salary Range / Rate: Base $150k-$250k Bonus Stock Options

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving complex backend and infrastructure challenges, building scalable distributed systems, and working in fast-paced startup environments with high ownership and direct product impact.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for AI-native consumer products
• Architect and implement distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and internal platform capabilities
• Build automation systems, developer tooling, and backend infrastructure to improve engineering productivity
• Optimize system reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency across backend services
• Collaborate closely with product, AI research, infrastructure, and frontend teams to rapidly ship new features and capabilities
• Support AI-related infrastructure, model integration workflows, and multi-service platform architecture
• Help define backend engineering best practices, system design standards, and development workflows
• Contribute across a broad range of technical initiatives depending on business and product priorities

Requirements

• 5 years of backend or software engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and modern backend development
• Strong experience building scalable backend systems, APIs, cloud services, or distributed systems
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and modern platform architectures
• Solid understanding of system design, scalability, reliability, and performance optimization
• Experience working in fast-paced startup or high-growth environments
• Strong problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Ability to operate with high ownership and ambiguity

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly preferred:

• AI startups or AI-native products
• LLM infrastructure or AI platform systems
• Distributed systems and cloud-native architectures
• Data infrastructure and platform engineering
• Developer productivity tooling and automation systems
• Consumer-facing product development
• Multi-modal AI systems or AI workflow infrastructure
