Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Controller with 7 years of project scheduling experience and expert-level Microsoft Project expertise. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of Critical Path Methodology (CPM), Level 2 project scheduling, project controls, cost loading, procurement tracking, and schedule analysis within complex engineering, manufacturing, or construction environments.
Experience with Touchplan, LEAN scheduling, SAP, equipment delivery tracking, and project costing is highly valued. The role requires strong collaboration with engineering teams, vendors, contractors, and project stakeholders while managing multiple projects and maintaining schedule and cost performance.
Responsibilities
- Lead project management and project scheduling activities for complex projects.
- Develop and manage CPS schedules using Microsoft Project.
- Build complex project schedules from scope blocks with minimal supervision.
- Establish accurate task durations, sequencing, relationships, resources, milestones, and schedule logic.
- Manage Level 2 project schedules, including resource and cost loading.
- Apply Critical Path Methodology (CPM) and milestone management techniques.
- Progress schedules from feasibility-level planning toward approximately 80% confidence.
- Analyze schedule impacts resulting from scope, procurement, equipment, staffing, and execution changes.
- Evaluate procurement delays, OEM expediting, split shipments, and equipment delivery risks.
- Analyze staffing and shift scenarios and their impact on project schedules.
- Perform backward planning and pull planning for critical activities.
- Identify and recommend schedule acceleration opportunities.
- Review critical paths, cost loading, constraints, lags, relationships, milestones, and schedule logic.
- Prepare schedule summaries, performance metrics, risk updates, and leadership reports.
- Facilitate weekly project schedule review meetings.
- Coordinate with project resources to track progress and communicate schedule concerns to Project Managers and stakeholders.
- Support comprehensive schedule submissions using the Project Success Method, including resource and cost loading.
- Manage Equipment Status Memorandum (ESM) activities with design firms, equipment vendors, and stakeholders.
- Deliver equipment and process packages as part of the Project Delivery Team.
- Support Engineering Work Processes (EWP) and document generation.
- Support sourcing plans and procurement activities using applicable sourcing tools.
- Maintain issue logs and E-Trending reports.
- Support Small Project Funding Packages, WBS assignment, and project structure management.
- Conduct spending reviews, cost validation, construction cost forecasting, and cost optimization activities.
- Use SAP for reporting and spend management.
- Coordinate project meetings using Microsoft Outlook.
- Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings, and applicable standards.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining schedule and cost performance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 7 years of project scheduling experience.
- Expert/advanced Microsoft Project experience — mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of Critical Path Methodology (CPM) and milestone management.
- Experience developing and managing Level 2 project schedules.
- Strong understanding of schedule logic, sequencing, durations, relationships, resources, constraints, lags, and milestones.
- Experience with procurement tracking and equipment delivery coordination.
- Strong project costing and cost-loading knowledge.
- Experience coordinating with engineering vendors, construction contractors, and project teams.
- Experience in complex engineering, manufacturing, construction, or project environments.
- Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Engineering degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation & Control Engineering (BE/B.Tech/BS/MS).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Touchplan.
- Knowledge of LEAN scheduling and Pull Planning.
- Strong SAP experience for reporting and spend management.
- Experience with ESM/ISM procurement processes.
- Experience with resource- and cost-loaded schedules.
- Construction cost forecasting experience.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs and electrical drawings.
- Experience with E-Trending and issue-log management.
- Experience with process or packaging manufacturing technologies.
- Experience with OEM/vendor expediting and schedule acceleration.
- Experience supporting Engineering Work Processes (EWP).
- Experience managing multiple complex capacity-expansion projects.
